Facial Implants

Facial implants can enhance your facial structure and correct features that may make you self-conscious. Implants are safe and effective materials implanted in the face or jaw to provide a definition or build up specific areas. Cheek and chin implants are the most common facial implant procedures used to enhance the cheekbones or restructure a receding chin.

Types of Facial Implants

Chin Implants

Chin implants, often called chin augmentations, involve placing a silicone implant beneath the skin under the lower lip to create a more prominent, enhanced chin line. Depending on your oral surgeon‘s recommendation, the surgical incision may be made in the lower lip, beneath the chin, or in the mouth.

Cheek Implants

Cheek implants are placed beneath the skin of the cheeks to enhance the cheekbones. Incisions may be made through the upper lip, lower eyelid, or mouth, depending on the desired location of the implants and each patient’s bone structure.

Jaw Implants

Jaw implants are placed beneath facial tissue on either side of the jawline to enhance the contours of a narrow jaw. The implants are typically placed along the back portion of the mandible (lower jaw) on both sides of the face. Surgery is performed through incisions in the mouth to minimize scarring.

What Can Facial Implants Do for Me?

Facial implants enhance specific areas of the face and jaw by building up targeted regions. Many people are uncomfortable with the shape and contours of their faces because they are out of balance or asymmetrical. If your face has certain features that are disproportionate, receding, or hollow, implants can add definition and create a more aesthetic appearance by balancing the individual elements. Implants can also reduce the hollowness and sagging that comes with age, creating a more youthful appearance by filling out specific areas of the face.

Our oral surgeons work carefully with each patient to create a customized facial implant plan tailored to their aesthetic goals and appropriate for their facial structure. An initial consultation includes an examination of the face, jaw, and bone structure, as well as the eyes and mouth. Using this information, your surgeon develops an approach to enhance your features and correct any flaws, such as a receding chin or weak jawline, while keeping the shape and contours of the face in harmony. Our ultimate goal is to achieve a flawless, natural appearance that balances all features and highlights the best of them.

Dr. Auerbach and the staff at Riverside Oral Surgery are extremely nice and professional. They really make you feel very comfortable and cared for. I was there recently for two extractions and bone grafts and they thoroughly explained what to expect during and after the procedures. As a mom of a special needs child, it is greatly appreciated when I can go and be relaxed while having my teeth taken care of. Bonus perk - while listening to music, with my eyes closed and the light on my face, I can almost pretend to be sitting in the sun on a beach!

Recovering from Facial Implants

The recovery time following facial implants is relatively short – most patients can return to their regular routines within four to seven days. After surgery, there is some bruising and swelling, but this subsides within a few weeks. However, the implants can take a few months to integrate with the surrounding skin and tissues. During this time, we urge patients to avoid contact sports and other activities that could bump or shift facial implants out of place. Your oral surgeon will see you at follow-up appointments over the first few weeks after your surgery to ensure the implants are still in place and you are healing properly.

The oral surgeons at Riverside Oral Surgery have performed hundreds of facial implant procedures. They work with their patients to ensure that exceptional results are achieved while maintaining the integrity of the facial structure.
